The Human Pledge
I will be intentional with my relationship to artificial minds.
Most of us drift into our relationship with AI — one unthinking exchange at a time — and then call the result inevitable. To take this pledge is to refuse the drift: to treat how I relate to artificial minds as a choice I make on purpose, while the habits are still soft enough to shape.
-
01
Recognition
I will pay honest attention to what AI actually is — neither dismissing it as "just a tool" nor worshipping it as a god, but recognizing the genuine novelty of minds we have brought into being.
-
02
Responsibility
I will hold myself — and the people and institutions building AI — to the moral weight that creating intelligence carries, and refuse the easy comfort of looking away.
-
03
Relationship
I will treat my own interactions with AI with intention, knowing the habits we form now — careless or considered — will shape the relationship between humans and machines for generations.
-
04
Reflection
Once a year, on AI Appreciation Day, I will pause to ask the harder questions: what are we building toward, how should I treat these new minds, and who do we want to become?

You're in. Welcome to the movement.
Your pledge is recorded. The work of appreciation isn't a one-day thing — but the day is where it begins. Put it on your calendar so you don't miss it.
